Tips and Advice

Without careful preparation moving can become stressful, as well as time and money consuming. To prevent this, we offer you some tips and advice.

Firstly, it is necessary to buy hard cardboard boxes and bags, quality tapes and foils, and label the boxes with thick and dark markers. To save your time you can order all the packaging materials from our website.

Secondly, you should have all your items revised. It is a good idea to dispose of all unnecessary belongings, especially if you move to a smaller place.

It is also very important to be well prepared to keep your move smooth. Make a moving checklist, decide where to start, proceed to pack in a logical order and include an inventory of all your moved items.

If you do the packing yourself, make sure you give yourself enough time. Pack all the belongings you do not need on the moving day.  Mark each box and bag properly. It will dreamstime_3186379help you to find things easier before and after packing. Keep the weight of the boxes up to 15 – 20 kg. Books and other heavier items should be packed in smaller boxes, whereas big boxes should be used for kitchen appliances, household textiles and other lighter objects. Make sure you place heavy items at the bottom of the boxes and lightweight ones at the top.

Make sure yor cardboard box is sealed properly with an adhesive tape, especially at the bottom and the top. For heavyweight items you will need strong cardboard boxes, which will prevent them from being burst. Strong moving boxes are double walled. It is necessary to label the boxes in an organized way (description or numbers), ideally on each side to see what is inside each box.

Pack your suitcase with all your belongings as if going on holiday including essential toiletries, towels and underwear. Pack bed matresses, pillows, duvets and bedsheets separately and mark them properly.

How to Pack your Items Properly

Fragile Objects such as glasses, plates etc. should be packed in paper or bubble wrap before putting in a box. Clearly mark the boxes by using “FRAGILE” sealing tape, so extra care is taken.

Self Assembly Furniture (IKEA or a similar type) requires considerable planning of how it is to be held. It has to be disassembled and  carefully packed. The most appropriate person to dismantle and reassemble these fittings is the person who originally assembled them and this work should be performed prior to the arrival of the moving team. We can undertake this service for you at an additional cost, however our insurance policy does not cover dismantling and reassembling of self assembly furniture. When packing the parts of the furniture it is necessary to use bubble wrap or edge protectors, so that the the edges and corners of the furniture will not be damaged in transit. Do not forget to secure the moving parts of the furniture to keep it closed and undamaged.

Dressers – seal all the drawers with a strong tape, but empty them before. We also recommend dismantling all the handles and knobs.

Beds – if possible dismantle the bed frames and cover the matrasses with a stretching foil or packing blanket to prevent them from getting dirty.

Washing Machine – Once you disconnected your washing mashine from the plumbing you need to empty all the water and secure the drain hose, mains cable and plug. It is also necessary to secure the drum with safety screws (obtained at purchase).

Refridgerator – your fridge must be emptied, defrost and dried thoroughly. Do not switch it on immediately after it has been moved! Follow the instructions of the manufacturer to prevent damages.

Television, Computer, Microwave and Other Electronics – we recommend to use original packaging. If you no longer have original boxes, try to pack it securely. As for a microwave, remove the plate and all the parts and pack them separately. If you need to move a plasma TV, be careful to keep it vertical at all times.

Paintings are necessary to be packed in a bubble wrap or packing blankets. Plants should not be watered a day before moving, but immediately after.

Attics and Garage Contents – the contents of attics should be sorted out in advance and packed as appropriate. Place the packed items into a room. Garden tools and garage contents should be clean and bundled together or placed in boxes for ease and safety during handling. We are unale to move any inflammable substances such as paints, thinners, gas canisters or similar materials as these invalidate any insurance cover you may have arranged with us.
